Christy and Justin Hoffmann first came to Rock Ministries in November 2011. They volunteered, along with their four children, at the annual Thanksgiving meal outreach. At the time they had attended Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia for approximately eight years.
In the Spring of 2012, Christy saw a Facebook post asking for assistance at the Second Floor program at The Rock. She started to assist once a week, and soon after, twice a week. Justin Jr., Laura, Rebekah, and Gabriella were her companions on these early trips to Kensington.
After attending the Urban Mission conference in August 2012, Christy felt the Lord leading her to do more in Kensington. The Hoffmann family started to attend church at Calvary Chapel of Kensington on Labor Day of 2012. Their involvement increased to Christy leading the Second Floor after school program, and Justin is on the worship team as drummer and occasional sound tech.
Even though the Hoffmanns only lived 20 minutes away in Northeast Philadelphia, they felt called to move to Kensington to serve the community as a missionary family, and to be closer to Rock Ministries. They moved to Clearfield Street, less than five houses away from Josh and Angela Vorbau, in August 2014. Both Christy and Justin feel drawn to the children in Kensington, and are trying to follow where the Lord leads them in serving in the neighborhood.
